"As a fire investigator, I see and learn something new every single day"
After more than 20 years working with fire prevention, I chose to sit on the other side two years ago and become a fire investigator with DBI. I haven’t regretted it for a second. Most of my time goes with fire investigation and finding “the point of origin”, how it started, why it developed the way that it did. Add I also carry out fact-based reports. All combined, this makes my job varied, exciting and motivating. I see something new every day. And I learn something new every day.
We’re exceptionally good at collaborating at DBI. For example, there’s a procedure to send our reports to a colleague for technical review, who assesses them impartially and critically. And among the fire investigators, we use each other for knowledge and sparring every day. This creates a dynamic working culture, where we’re constantly challenging our own assumptions and perspectives. You also get a sense of security knowing you have a second pair of eyes on a case.
