DBI - The Danish Institute of Fire and Security Technology - is one of Europe’s most modern and high-tech institutes for all aspects of fire safety and security. Our 3000 square metre fire laboratory near Copenhagen houses vertical and horizontal furnaces for resistance-to-fire testing, reaction-to-fire equipment and dedicated setups for facade testing, insulation, bio-based materials and more.


We work with manufacturers, architects, engineers, contractors and building owners throughout the entire fire testing process — from early-stage product development to final classification fire testing. Our fire testing engineers help you choose the right test method, optimise your product before full scale fire testing and navigate the documentation requirements for European market access.

Our 3,000 square meter headquarters near Copenhagen houses a modern fire laboratory with various furnaces for almost all types of fire tests.

This makes it possible for us to conduct almost all types of fire tests, from small-scale to full-scale, with items as high as 4.48 meters.

Small-scale fire tests give you fast, early insight into how materials and systems behave before committing to full-scale testing. By identifying risks sooner, optimising design choices and reducing costly rework, you can move more efficiently through development and prepare for full-scale testing with greater certainty.

Certification of construction products

Our subsidiary, DBI Certification A/S, provides independent product certification for construction products. These certifications support the marketing of products in the EU under the Construction Products Regulation (CPR).

In cooperation with accredited and reputable test laboratories, DBI Certification ensures an efficient and reliable certification process.

Standards and standardisations

DBI is involved in Danish , European and international standardization work. Through these forums we influence standards concerning fire protection and fire extinguishing.

Danish Standards

Representatives from DBI sit on several standardization committees under Danish Standards (DS) . We influence developments concerning reaction and resistance to fire, and automatic fire extinguishing systems.

European Standards

DBI is represented in a number of committees under the "Comité Européen De Normalization" (CEN), where work is being carried out to introduce common standards in the European Union. Many are already applied and more are on their way.

International Standards

DBI is also involved in international standardization work, including the International Maritime Organization (IMO) , where guidelines, for fire requirements applicable to ships and their interior, are set.
