Specialist consulting and applied research for the energy sector

From battery storage and e-fuels to hydrogen infrastructure and solar installations — every new energy technology brings fire and safety questions that require independent, research-backed answers. DBI’s specialists combine risk assessments, regulatory consulting, advanced fire engineering and applied research to help you understand the risks, document compliance and bring new solutions safely to market.

At DBI, consulting and research go hand in hand. Our advisors draw directly on findings from research projects — which means you get guidance grounded in the latest science, not just established practice. Whether you are developing a BESS installation, planning a hydrogen facility, assessing Power-to-X safety or documenting fire risk for solar panel systems, DBI has the specialist knowledge and testing capacity to support you.

Solar panels / PV systems

Fire testing and research on roof-mounted solar panel installations. Through the SOL-IGNIS project, DBI has conducted large-scale fire testing of roof constructions with PV systems — generating critical knowledge about fire spread, structural impact and safety performance. The findings support manufacturers, installers and authorities in making solar energy safer.

Fire testing of batteries

We have both the test facilities and the expertise to carry out fire tests of batteries under safe and controlled conditions. The tests are conducted in a specially designed container – MOBAT (Mobile Battery Fire Testing Unit) – which is used for ad hoc testing on a smaller scale of both known and newly developed battery types.
